A strategic foundation for a practice ready to grow on its own terms

Charlton Architecture

Charlton Architecture is a residential design studio with a strong reputation, a loyal client base, and a founder with a clear design philosophy. What it didn't have was a strategic framework for what came next - or language to describe, attract, and protect the kind of work it wanted most.

What we built

Positioning, audience, and brand language

A full competitive and market analysis, audience segmentation with detailed client personas, and an updated brand positioning statement with tone of voice guidelines. The work clarified not just who the ideal client is, but how they think, what they need to hear, and where the studio had room to differentiate in a crowded market.

A phased roadmap for intentional, sustainable growth

A three-phase growth framework spanning 0 to 5+ years - covering marketing and visibility strategy, business development, and a hiring roadmap. Each phase was designed to respect the founder's bandwidth and life stage while building toward a studio model that could take on more creative, design-forward work without sacrificing the personal process that defines it.

The work behind the work

Much of what this engagement produced happened in conversation. Working through the growth strategy revealed assumptions that had been quietly limiting the practice, including around hiring. The studio had only ever considered full-time employees as a path to scaling. Naming contractors, part-time roles, and flexible support structures as legitimate options changed how growth felt: from daunting to designed.

Our work together helped me better understand my own goals and offered some useful insights into different ways of thinking about scaling the practice.”

— Bronwyn Charlton, Charlton Architecture

Charlton Architecture left the engagement with a complete brand and growth strategy - clear positioning, defined audience, and a phased roadmap built around the founder's vision of success. Not rapid scaling or volume, but a practice that grows toward the work it wants most, at a pace that fits.
